Kofuku-ji Temple
was build in the 3rd year of the Wado era, when Fujiwara-no Fuhito moved
the Umayasaka-dera Temple, its predecessor, from Asuka to Heijo-kyo Palace.
Later it came to life as the tutelary temple of the Fujiwara family. The
51-meter-tall five-storied pagoda is known as the symbol of Nara.
