Konin-e Ceremony

This ceremony is associated with the description of the book "Shokunihongi". Emperor Kammu, who was accompanied by civil and military officials, came from Kyoto to Nara to hold a Buddhist ceremony in this temple for the repose of Emperor Konin.
After the Buddhist ceremony starting at 8:00 a.m., "Sasazake" is served. Sasazake, which is poured into a bamboo cup from a bamboo tube, is said to be efficacious against cancer. The ceremony is based on a story of the longevity that Emperor Konin, when he was called Prince Shirakabe, often cut down the purified bamboos in the precincts of Daian-ji Temple and warmed up Sake, which made him keep good health to be enthroned at the age of 62.
